Benefits of Soft Closures Drawers and Cabinets

October 18, 2017 by Sandy Hendricks Leave a Comment

soft drawer closureSoft closures, also called hydraulic closures, are one of the most popular requests for new cabinets during a kitchen remodel . They are popular for their convenience and are one of the lower cost upgrades available. However, they offer many advantages over just closing the drawers more easily.

They’re Quiet

Unless you force them closed by slamming them, your drawers and cabinet doors will close silently. The mechanism in the soft closure shuts the drawer slowly that last inch no matter how quickly you push it shut initially. Because it slows down as it nears the end of the close, the contents of the drawers don’t shift around, which is another way they minimize noise. Of course, being able to find the items that you just put away because they didn’t shift is a benefit in itself.

They’re Safe

If you have little fingers in your home, you’ve likely seen them get caught in a drawer a time or two. The speed of the soft closure gives time for little fingers to get out of the way. If they don’t, it closes easily so they can pull them out. It also helps new helpers not slam the drawers and doors in the first place as they participate in kitchen activities.

They Help Your Cabinetry Last

When cabinet doors aren’t slammed, they last longer. Slamming doors puts stress on the wood, hinges, and frame. Removing that stress helps your cabinets look great longer. When it comes to your drawers, leaving one partly open puts added stress on the drawer glides, weakening them over time. With soft closures, your drawers are more likely to be completely closed lessening the strain.

Remember soft closures aren’t just for your kitchen remodel. They add a bit of luxury to any of cabinets in your home. Because they’re so affordable they are a great option that really does add value when you go to sell your home.
