Your Family’s Lifestyle Impacts Your Flooring
If your family is made up of kids who roll toys around on the floor or pets running in and out, you might want to consider a durable new flooring surface that’s easy to clean. Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) is a popular choice for active households as it comes in many different looks from tile to wood but is very durable. On the other end of the spectrum is hardwood flooring and engineered wood flooring. Although any wood flooring is susceptible to scratches and dents, especially from pet claws, if you choose a distressed finish, those scratches won’t be as apparent. Of course, one benefit of real hardwood flooring is that you can refinish it as needed.
Choosing Your Flooring by Room
Areas that have a lot of moisture or the potential for spills need flooring that can stand up to water. Tile, some laminates, and LVT are good options for bathrooms, laundry rooms, and kitchens. Keep in mind, however, that tile is a hard surface to stand on so if you’re going to be standing for long periods of time you may want to consider another option.
Smaller rooms will look even smaller if you choose a dark pattern or finish to the flooring. If you’re adding new floors to an office or small guest room, consider something in a lighter finish. The room will look larger and brighter.
Budget Considerations
For the most part, real hardwood flooring is the most expensive new flooring option, however, it also can last for decades. If budget is an issue but you want to look of wood floors, consider engineered wood flooring, laminate, and even luxury vinyl tile. With today’s 3D printing technology, laminates and LVT have realistic depth of pattern unlike products seen just a few years ago. Tile flooring can be expensive or budget friendly depending up the type of tile and the size of the tiles themselves. Larger tiles are more expensive to install due to their weight requiring two-man teams to install each tile.
